Q + A

Why Ireland?

Laken's time studying in the UK fostered a deep appreciation for Ireland's rich culture and breathtaking landscapes. Paddy's own Irish heritage adds a layer of sentimental significance, making Ireland the perfect place to bring together family & friends.

Where is Slane Castle?

Slane Castle is located in the village of Slane, within the Boyne Valley of County Meath, Ireland. Nestled in the Irish countryside overlooking the River Boyne, Slane Castle is a convenient 30-minute drive from Dublin and its international airport. The castle has been the family seat of the Conyngham family since it was built in the late 18th century.

How can I get to Slane?

For your convenience, Dublin Airport is the recommended arrival point. Transportation options from the airport include taxi services or car rentals. We highly recommend securing your preferred method of transport in advance to ensure availability and potentially avoid last-minute surcharges. We recommend specifying the need for an automatic vehicle. To ease your travel on the wedding weekend, we'll be providing transportation between the village of Slane and Slane Castle for both the Welcome Party and the Wedding Day.

What is the best way to rent a car in Ireland?

Please note that Ireland follows left-hand-drive traffic. While car rentals offer a fantastic way to explore, the journey from Dublin to Slane is famously brief and straightforward. For your convenience, pre-booking an automatic car rental upon arrival at the airport is recommended.

When is the best time to book travel & accommodations?

According to Expedia's study, data shows that you want to book at least six months in advance for international travel. The study found you'll save an average of 10% by booking six months in advance instead of two months or less. It is recommended to book accommodation at least 2-3 months in advance.

What is the best form of Payment in the EU/UK?

Ireland’s currency is the Euro, while nearby Northern Ireland/UK uses the British Pound. Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted throughout the island of Ireland/UK; American Express is accepted in some places but not all. Credit cards can be used for purchases and also to withdraw cash from ATMs (although this usually is accompanied by a fee). It is advised to use Euros/Pounds over US Dollar if prompted by the card terminal. The rate your card provider uses when processing local currency payments will, in most cases, be lower than that of the merchant, or foreign bank, when paying in dollars (USD). Traveler’s checks are no longer being issued.

What will the weather be like?

October in Ireland sees the days shorten and temperatures drop, with average highs of 13°C/55°F and average lows of 6°C/42°F. The air is cool and crisp, rainfall is common and the trees are covered in orange leaves.

What should I pack?

It is recommended you pack attire that can be layered for warmth as well as a waterproof jacket and boots. It is recommended to buy a EU converter to use for charging devices and hair tools, however they are not welcome in all accommodations. Passports are necessary for travel to the EU/UK. Please make sure your passports are up to date and expire no less than 6 months before arrival & return.

What kind of Phone service will there be?

While international roaming plans are available, consider purchasing a local SIM card upon arrival at Dublin Airport. This ensures reliable data access for iMessage, WhatsApp, and general internet use while in the Irish countryside. Remember to safely store your US SIM card.

What should I wear?

The welcome party will be a warm causal pub evening, Barbour jackets and boots. For the wedding day we ask that men wear a tuxedo or a dark suit and tie and women wear an evening gown. Have fun.
